Before Sunset

Richard Linklater·80 min

Linklater returns to Jesse and Céline a decade on, and the sequel is somehow even better: now in their thirties, marked by the lives they built instead of each other, given a single afternoon in Paris before his flight. It plays out almost in real time, and the talk has changed — wearier, more guarded, full of the things adults learn not to say. The famous final scene is one of the most perfect endings in modern cinema, suspended on a question it refuses to answer. It is about regret, second chances, and the person you cannot stop wondering about.
