The 2018 reboot finds Kratos older, living in the snow of the Norse world, raising a boy named Atreus after the death of the boy's mother. Her last wish is to scatter her ashes from the highest peak, and the whole game is that journey. The man who spent earlier games tearing through Greek gods in a blind fury now has to be a father, which he is bad at. The combat is heavier and more deliberate, built around an axe you throw and call back, and the camera never cuts away from Kratos for the entire trip. It is a story about a violent man trying not to pass his violence down.
