Soda Stereo, the biggest rock band in Latin America, broke up in 1997 while still filling stadiums. Cerati spent the next two years building this out of samples on an Akai MPC, the same machine the trip hop producers used. For one song, Verbo Carne, he flew to London and recorded a full orchestra at Abbey Road. The title means a puff of smoke. Rolling Stone ranks it as the second-best Latin American rock album ever made.
