A few years after the first game, Ellie sets out to kill the people responsible for a death she cannot forgive. The sequel follows her revenge in painful detail, then does something many players hated: it hands you control of the person she is hunting and asks you to understand her too. It is a long, heavy game about how revenge eats the person who carries it, told across two perspectives that refuse to let either side be the villain. The combat is the most refined the studio has made, and the violence is staged to disturb rather than thrill. It is genuinely divisive, and that is the point.
