The Spanish film Cameron Crowe later remade as Vanilla Sky, and the original is leaner and stranger. Cesar is rich, vain and used to getting what he wants until a car crash leaves his face wrecked and his grip on reality with it. Amenabar tells it from inside a prison cell, in flashback, as a psychologist tries to untangle what actually happened. The plot keeps pulling the floor out, but the real subject is a man who built a life on his looks and has to find out what is left without them.
