Undertale

A child falls into an underground kingdom full of monsters and has to find a way back to the surface. It looks like a small, cheap retro role-playing game, and that look is a trap. Every fight can be ended without violence. You can talk a monster down, spare it, flirt with it, or refuse to land a blow no matter how long it takes. The combat itself is a little bullet-dodging game where you steer a heart around the screen. Toby Fox made nearly all of it alone, including the music, and the writing swings from genuinely funny to sharp and uncomfortable depending on the choices you make.
