Studio M2 adapts Naoki Urasawa's manga, itself a retelling of an Astro Boy story, into eight hour-long episodes. Inspector Gesicht is a robot tracking a killer who is destroying the seven most powerful robots on Earth one by one. The case forces him to confront what he is, what he remembers, and what was done to him during a recent war. It is built as a procedural but it is really about grief and whether a machine can carry it. The pacing is patient and adult, closer to a novel than a typical action series.
