After Darren Emerson left, plenty of people wrote Underworld off. Karl Hyde and Rick Smith answered with this: softer, sunnier, less interested in the dance floor than in feeling. The title track, Two Months Off, runs nearly nine minutes on one phrase, you bring light in, repeated until it lifts off. Hyde had stopped drinking around this time, and the record carries the relief of a person coming back to himself.
