
By 1979 Electric Light Orchestra had spent a decade gluing Beatles pop to a string section, and Jeff Lynne decided the new songs should also make people dance. The band joked that the title read better as Disco Very. It became their first number one album in Britain and produced a run of hit singles, among them Don't Bring Me Down, the biggest American hit they ever had and the first ELO song with no strings on it at all.
