Animals

Pink Floyd·42 min · 5 tracks

Roger Waters took the frame of Orwell's Animal Farm and pointed it at 1970s Britain: dogs are the ruthless men of business, pigs the moralizing rulers, sheep everyone else. The band recorded it at Britannia Row, a studio they had built for themselves in Islington. Three long songs and two short acoustic bookends, and that is the whole album. For the cover they floated a forty-foot inflatable pig over Battersea Power Station. It tore loose, drifted into Heathrow's flight paths, and got the album on the evening news before anyone had heard a note.
