Debut

Björk·48 min · 11 tracks

After a decade fronting the Sugarcubes, Björk moved to London at twenty-seven and started over with producer Nellee Hooper, who had come out of the same Bristol scene as Massive Attack. The result mixes house beats, harps, and a jazz standard recorded in a nightclub bathroom for the echo. She called it Debut because it felt like the real start. Human Behaviour, with its Michel Gondry video about a giant teddy bear, introduced a voice that could go from a whisper to a roar inside one line.
