Kubota is a bored, sharp-eyed young man who drifts out of running a yakuza gang and into a quiet life. Then he takes in Tokito, an amnesiac boy with a strange clawed hand, and the two end up tangled in a drug called Wild Adapter that turns users into animal-like corpses. The plot is a loose crime story, but Minekura is far more interested in the two leads: how they cook dinner, share cigarettes, and watch each other's backs without ever quite saying what they are to each other. It is a violent book that keeps slowing down to sit in an apartment with two people who have nowhere else to be.
