Cuphead is a boss-rush shooter built to look and sound exactly like a 1930s cartoon. Every frame was drawn by hand in ink, the backgrounds painted in watercolor, the music recorded by a live jazz band. You play a little cup-headed creature who loses a bet to the Devil and has to collect debts from other debtors, which means fighting a long line of inventive, escalating bosses. It is hard. It wants you to die, learn the pattern, and come back. The look is the hook, but the difficulty is the point.
