You command Fox McCloud, leader of a squadron of animal mercenaries flying fighters against a mad scientist's empire. Each level is a few minutes long, an on-rails sprint through canyons, asteroid fields, and dogfights, with your three wingmates chattering on the radio the whole time. The genius is the branching map: do well in a stage, find the secret route, and you unlock a harder, better version of the next planet. The whole campaign is barely an hour, but it is built to be replayed, route by route, for the higher score and the path you missed. Tight, loud, and completely sure of itself.
