You wake up in a ruined underground test facility run by GLaDOS, a passive-aggressive computer who hates you specifically. Your only tool is a gun that places two linked portals on flat surfaces, so you walk into one and out of the other, carrying your speed with you. The whole game is a chain of physics puzzles built on that one idea, getting cleverer as it adds gels, light bridges, and tractor beams. What makes it land is the comedy. The writing, voiced by Stephen Merchant and J.K. Simmons among others, is genuinely funny, and the story of a tiny robot trying to take over the facility is better than it has any right to be.
