Fantastic Mr. Fox

Wes Anderson takes Roald Dahl and makes it his own. Mr. Fox, voiced by George Clooney, swore off stealing chickens for his family, but the old itch returns and he raids three nasty farmers, who respond by digging up the whole hillside to kill him. It is stop-motion, fur visibly rippling under the lights, shot with Anderson's flat symmetrical framing translated to puppets. The dialogue is dry and quick and a little melancholy. It is a kids' film about a midlife crisis, animal instinct, and the cost of needing to feel special.
