NieR: Automata is an action role-playing game about androids fighting machine lifeforms on an Earth humans have long since left. You start as 2B, a combat android, in a world that looks straightforward and is not. The catch is structural: the game is built to be played through more than once, and each pass changes what the last one meant. PlatinumGames handles the combat, so it is fast and good to play. Yoko Taro handles the story, so it goes places action games usually do not.
